Just like seasons change, we get older and change too. Sometimes we change for the better – growing wiser and more confident in our skin. But growing older is certainly not without its ups and downs. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in everyday life… in our jobs, in the lives of our families, and in the day-to-day chores we have to get done. It’s so easy to lose track of what makes us tick. If you’ve lost a little (or a lot) of the excitement you used to have about life, here are 5 ways to fall in love with yourself this fall.
1. Start saying yes to life!
How many times has your neighbor invited you over for drinks, but you said no? You had too much to do around the house. You didn’t have an outfit ready. You felt too tired to chat.
How many times has your husband asked you to take an afternoon off for some alone time, but it just wasn’t in your schedule? Too many times to count?
Do yourself a favor: The next time you’re inclined to say no, say YES! Be open to new experiences because you never know where they’ll take you. Stepping away from the monotony of your schedule can make a huge difference in your attitude, too. When you do have to get back to the tasks at hand, you’ll be able to do them with a fresh mind. And honestly, when you look back at your life one day, do you really want to flash back to memories of sitting at the computer and cleaning your house? I don’t think so!
2. Check in on yourself more often.
How are you really doing? Do you even know? Do you stop to ask yourself if you’re happy? And if you’re not, what are you going to do about it? Talking to a close friend or keeping a journal can help you keep your thoughts and life goals in check. Your well-being should always be a priority, no matter how many responsibilities you have.
3. Laugh a lot because… why not?!
I’m sure you’ve had one of those days recently where everything went wrong. It went so wrong, that there was nothing left to do but laugh. And how good did that laugh feel? You’d be amazed at how much brighter life seems when you laugh more often. No matter what life throws at you… stay strong and know that you’ve got it handled (even if you’re just faking it!) Take some time each week to watch your favorite comedian or a funny YouTube star. Make time to smile, and soon you’ll just be used to doing it all of the time!
4. Unplug for at least one full day every month.
It may sound easy, but have you ever tried it? That’s right – no phone, no computer, no TV. Just you and those around you. Spend some quality time alone or with the people you love, and enjoy every single moment without interruption. You’ll be shocked at how relaxed you’ll feel!
5. Challenge yourself to do something totally out of character.
Spice it up this fall, and try out things you normally wouldn’t do. Accept a date from that cute stranger. Travel by yourself to someplace you’ve always wanted to see. Try a boudoir photo session… I just had to throw that one in! When you make extraordinary things happen, you’ll get a huge confidence boost to inspire you all through the fall and beyond.
