Picking out the perfect wardrobe for boudoir photos
You’ve taken a giant step. You’ve contacted me and made an appointment to have an incredible boudoir photography shoot. Now the big question looming on your mind is: What do I wear?
Relax! This is a very common question that I get asked when a first-time client books my services. If you’ve never done a boudoir shoot before, I often suggest enjoying a day on the town shopping for lingerie. Or, if you love shopping that much, bring your best girlfriends and make it into a full weekend of fun! Boudoir is all about you, and spending the time to prepare yourself can be incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. When you’re shopping for items to wear, make sure that you feel comfortable in them. Buy lingerie that reflects your own personal style, and avoid trying to wear something that really isn’t you. Some women choose to cover themselves up more than others during their boudoir shoots. There’s nothing wrong with this at all. Whether you choose a bodysuit or a barely-there thong, your choice of lingerie is simply a reflection of your unique personality. A good rule of thumb is that if you like how it looks in the mirror when you try it on, you will like how it looks in a photo.
Variety is key
Now on to my next point. Be prepared to mix it up! Remember that we’ll be taking lots and lots of photos during your shoot, so bring a few outfit changes. Why? Well, when the shoot is over and you’re picking out your photos, you’ll have a great variety to choose from. You don’t want to end up with a bunch of photos of you wearing the same thing, or the same color (like all black). This can get boring. Yes, black is always sexy, but also throw in some fire engine red, deep sea green, sky blue, or whatever colors compliment you best. Color isn’t the only way to mix it up, though. You should also bring different types of items. I’m talking about bra and panty sets, nighties, or even one of your guy’s shirts. If you plan to give your photos to your man, I guarantee he’ll enjoy seeing you wearing something from his wardrobe!
A boudoir photography shoot isn’t just about the lingerie, though. It’s also about the props! If you love bling, don’t forget to bring that as well — whether it’s your wedding ring or fancy statement jewelry. You would be surprised just how much a statement necklace can dial up the sexiness of a photo. Garters and high heels can also be sultry additions to any look. If you’re a bride-to-be who has already had a shower or bachelorette party, your boudoir photography shoot is the perfect time to use any lingerie that you received as gifts. You may even want to pose in your wedding veil. This makes a great photo for a groom’s gift.
