Boudoir is such a unique way to celebrate your body. As a photographer, my goal has always been to help my clients love their bodies in ways they never thought possible. One question I see popping into my DMs a lot lately is, “Do you offer tasteful plus size boudoir photography?” So I thought I would write this blog to address it.
What’s boudoir all about anyway?
Over the years, I’ve realized that people who aren’t too familiar with boudoir tend to think it’s just a way to spice up your love life. They think it’s about taking provocative photos, and that’s it. But take it from someone who does this for many years – the majority of my sessions are with women who simply want to feel more confident and empowered.
Clients who visit my boudoir studio in Brooklyn are looking for ways to celebrate – even if it’s not for happy occasions. They just want to feel good about themselves, relax, and have fun despite stressful things going on in their lives.
Boudoir proves that a positive outlook about yourself can help you deal with life’s challenges. For example, I’ve worked with women who just ended relationships, who were diagnosed with cancer, and who have struggled with self-esteem issues.
Other clients who book photo sessions with me want to treat themselves after getting a job promotion, after retiring, or because they got engaged. As you can see, people come from all walks of life to do a photo shoot, and everyone has a different reason. But all of their sessions usually end with them saying how amazing they feel. Some thank me and say that they really needed to feel that way and how much it will help them going forward.
What if you don’t feel comfortable posing nude?
Contrary to what you may see on social media, boudoir photos don’t have to be nude or even in lingerie – they can just show off your natural beauty. I like to capture the real you. The person you are, not the person you think others want you to be.
Boudoir photography is meant to be an empowering and exciting experience that’s captured in a tasteful way. Whether you’re taking photos just for yourself or you’re planning on making an album for your partner, the goal is just to feel comfortable in your own skin. If you can do that in front of a camera, then you’ll realize that you can do that in all other areas of your life too! That’s what the whole experience is really about.
So, What Should you wear?
I tell all of my clients to wear something that they feel comfortable in, but that also makes them look good. Whether that’s a husband’s shirt, a gorgeous flowing gown, pretty lingerie or a leather jacket – it’s 100% up to you. There are absolutely no rules when it comes to what makes you feel your best.
Tasteful Plus Size Boudoir Photography In NYC
I think you’ve figured out by now that my answer when someone asks if I offer plus size boudoir photography is “yes”! As you can see from the photos here on this blog, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph so many fabulous women of all shapes and sizes.
When you can see someone’s boudoir photos on my blog or on Instagram, it gives you the opportunity to connect to what they’re feeling on a more personal level. If these women have the courage to try a boudoir shoot and feel like their best selves ever, they just may inspire you!
Here’s what one recent client of mine had to say about her photo session:
“I could not be happier with my experience with Evgenia and my boudoir shoot. I was understandably nervous, as I consider myself a very awkward/unphotogenic person so I was in absolute shock at the final results! The images were incredibly beautiful, I couldn’t believe it was me! Evgenia made the experience so fun and enjoyable and really put my nerves at ease during the session. I can’t wait to go back for another session at some point and my fiancé absolutely loved the album! Highly, highly recommend- no occasion needed, just do it for yourself!“
A big part of the message that I want to communicate in this blog is body acceptance. The other is empowering women, especially ones who struggle with their bodies. If you happen to be one of them, I want you to know that you’re beautiful no matter what.
Imagine looking in the mirror and seeing someone you love. Imagine seeing yourself exactly as you are, flaws and all — someone worthy of love. This is the type of body acceptance that boudoir can help you achieve. My studio gives you a safe place to explore who you are and how you want others to see you, whether that be confident or playful, or sensual.
