A few weeks ago, I had the chance to chat with one of my favorite sites, Modern Mom Probs, about female empowerment. We talked about my journey as an entrepreneur and how I’ve been able to empower other women along the way. It was truly an honor to be asked to share my thoughts on such an important topic!
One theme that kept coming up in the interview was why so many women struggle with low self-esteem and how I help them overcome it.
I have to say that after years in this industry, it’s pretty clear that boudoir photography is generally misunderstood. When most people think about boudoir, they think of lingerie and supermodels. They think you have to look perfect and be super sexy. Sure, I create beautiful and sexy images in a boudoir session, but that’s not what it’s all about.
Many of my clients choose to take intimate photos as a way to celebrate their bodies and feel more confident in their own skin no matter what size, shape, or age they are. It’s not about looking perfect – it’s about feeling sexy and beautiful, no matter what your personal definition of those words is.
Why I Think Many Women Struggle with Self-Esteem Issues
As consumers, we’re bombarded with images of airbrushed models in magazines and on TV. It’s so easy these days to fall into the trap of feeling like you’re not good enough.
Then you have to look at how women are socialized from a young age. Girls are often taught to be polite and modest, while boys are encouraged to be assertive and outspoken. This can lead to girls feeling like they are never good enough, and that their opinions don’t matter.
Low self-esteem can also be caused by physical appearance. Women, in general, are more likely to internalize the negative messages about their appearance that are portrayed in the media. This can lead to feelings of insecurity and self-doubt.
Confidence is Key to Happiness in Any Area of Life.
When you feel confident, it shows. You walk taller, you speak more clearly, and you make better eye contact. You also project an image of success, which can be very appealing to others. In fact, people who feel confident are often seen as more attractive, more competent, and more successful.
Confident people are more likely to take risks to achieve their goals, and they often make better decisions because they trust their instincts.
But confidence isn’t just about looking good or being successful. It’s also about feeling good. People who are confident feel better about themselves and have more control over their lives.
How to Love Yourself When You Don’t Feel Good Enough
So if you’re trying to work on your confidence, you really can’t overlook self-love and self-care. When you take the time to celebrate yourself, like my clients who take intimate photos, you’re acknowledging all of the wonderful things that make you unique and special. This can be anything from your accomplishments to your personality quirks.
It’s definitely not selfish to celebrate yourself – in fact, it’s essential! When you take care of yourself and focus on your own happiness, you become a more positive force in the world. You have more to give to others and you’re better able to handle stress and difficult situations.
When it comes to boudoir photography, the #1 fear for most women is that they won’t look good in intimate photos. And while this fear is understandable, it should never be a deal-breaker. In fact, if you take the time to find a photographer who understands your concerns and knows how to make you feel comfortable, you can end up with some incredible photos.
The first step to facing your fears is always the hardest. But it’s also the most important step because it’s the one that could change your life for the better.
Taking Intimate Photos is the Ultimate Form of Female Empowerment!
There’s something about boudoir that empowers women in a way that no other form of self-expression can. Intimate photos are a way to reclaim our bodies and our sexuality and to own our femininity in a world that tells us we shouldn’t be sexy or proud of being unique.
I encourage any woman reading this to book a boudoir session. There is no greater way to celebrate your body and womanhood. When you look at the images from your session, you’ll see that you’re way more than just a mother, a wife, or a professional – you are a goddess.
